Bailadoras LOVE NYC! Enough said:)
Nothing is quite as thrilling for a dance teacher than to have another dance teacher compliment my students & their work ethic. The Ailey dancers who led our two private classes were both not only phenomenal dancers, but also fantastic motivators. The Bailadoras were able to experience a new dance style in quite possibly one of the most beautiful studios they will ever dance in with fantastic teachers, and this experience deepened their love of dance! I couldn't be happier for my girls:)
Turning out an exciting Christmas Production takes a lot of work! This amazing group of girls sacrificed a couple of hours after their exams on Wednesday to paint our Christmas Cubes!!
Halloween is so much more fun with a toddler! Cohen loved trick-or-treating in the stands with the Bailadoras- especially when they gave him hot wheels, and he loved wearing his warm Lion costume, but his favorite part of Halloween this year was that he was able to spend it at the football game! My son LOVES ball based sports- especially football. Neither his dad nor I watch sports at home so i can only gather that this love has developed under the magical Friday Night Lights. It really is a special experience to raise a child who is a "coach's kid" He is able to have access to experiences that most children do not, and that is invaluable to me. I love that he will learn good sportsmanship from an early age from watching our Broncos "Keep It Classy." He will learn how to be disciplined and respectful by watching the Bailadoras in the stands. He will learn the love of music from the Bronco Band. And he will learn to have pride in performance from all of our Broncos involved in making each game a success! I love my job and I love that I am able to provide for my son in these special ways because of what I do!
As a former Rangerette, I have always had a bias towards the Rangerettes as the premier choice for dance/drill team after high school. And while I still think Rangerettes are the "bees knees" it is great to expose my girls to the other options that are out there.
Today, a wonderful sophomore Cardette, Alexandra, visited the girls. She told them all about her experiences as a Cardette and how much she loves it. She answered their questions about the school work load, dorms, etc and showed them a video of their spring show from last year. Many of the girls seemed very excited about this new possibility. She and I continued our discussion after the girls went on to their next class, and I discovered some more exciting things about the Cardettes that I didn't previously know. For one, they offer outstanding scholarships that greatly help offset the costs of tuition and as sophomores the scholarship also helps offset their room & board costs! I was really impressed with the amount of money they offered these dancers! Another exciting thing is that they get to travel out of the country every other year- that is so exciting for these young dancers!!
I, of course, will continue to encourage my dancers who have the ability to make Rangerettes to go for it! I want to share my traditions and experiences with my girls- its like being in this super elite dancing sorority & I want my Bailadoras to be my sisters!! But for those girls who want to continue to dance after high school but Rangerettes (for whatever reason) isn't an option for them, I am excited that we learned about a new option today!
I love when my dancers keep dancing after their leave my program, and I hope Alexandra inspired them to do so!!
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Bailadoras at Mooyah Burger on Monday night! We had a blast! It was so fun to see all of our families together & I loved watching the kids draw on the giant chalkboard! What a fun night!
I am so excited about this year! And excited to introduce to you our new website! I hope you all love it as much as I do! I am hoping to update it more regularly and showcase as much of your smiling faces as I can!
This is going to be my little drill team blog- where I can begin to let you know and understand the inner workings of this drill team director's mind. Hopefully the reality of that won't be as scary as the idea sounds.
We are off to a great start of the year! We had a very successful Sonic fundraiser and are already preparing for our 4th game of the season! It seems like summer camp was only yesterday. Well, you know what they say about time flying...we are having fun!
Right now, in the middle of football season, the Bailadoras are performing with perfection week after week with minimal rehearsal time. This has not been an easy task for many of our team members, and facing the disappointment of not making a dance has proven difficult for some. My goal each and every year is to teach life to my students, and as we know life is not always what we imagine or desire it to be. As adults we realize that life is hard! We want to protect our kids from life's hardships. We want to teach them that they can be anything that they want to be, that the sky is the limit. We want to protect them from failure; we want them to be creative and ambitious, and most of all we want them to be happy. But what I've learned as my life journey has developed, and most recently as I've turned the page into motherhood, life is part luck, part ambition, part passion, and a whole lot of what you make it! Happiness is what you want it to be. You will face failures and disappointments in life, but how you recover from those determines the kind of person you are and how happy you can be. One of my favorite quotes is from Confucius "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." I truly believe that the sky is the limit for these girls. They really are special! But what will make them successful in life is going to be a balance of it all- that they can face difficulties and not shy away- that they can say "You didn't like what I just presented to you? Ok, I will do better next time." This will set them apart from so many others in their generation who simply say "Don't you know how special I am?" Our girls are going to show you how special they are! And when an employer wonders- "wow, what helped you become so different from others your age?" She can respond "Drill Team!"
